Standard night out in Leeds: Mezz on a Monday, 90p drinks and pretty decent music! The best track of the night A-trak Remix of Heads Will Roll - Yeah Yeah Yeahs, pretty much set the tone and made the night all in one go
Then on to the MUSIC. We Have Band, Check Out This Band. This is proper guitar band in the modern sense ( i suppose??) its just excellent music, which is well worth checking out. I'm not going to say anything more on the subject :)
After studying 'Angles', lyrically and musically, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip had set the bar high, and in the first 8 bars of the 'The Logic Of Chance' they'd broken the record once again. 'Sick Tonight' just made me happy; pure and simple.
If their first record sounded like they were working with each other, their second sounds like they were working together. But at the same time, each could so easily be individual pieces of art, working on the same theme. Both artists are in tune with modern culture: Dan Le Sac flips through electro, hip-hop, drum and bass to dub-step, while Pip's social commentary is spot on, holding a mirror to society. My flat mate commented, " its so easy to comment but never actually do anything", but its in talking about it, getting it on the radio, getting it on the stereo, people hear about it and talk about it, that the work gets done.
That's what this album does, 'Great Britain' teaches us complacency is not enough, with the company of a great electro-beat. 'Get Better' has the best lines I have heard in a long time. 'The Beat' shows that Le Sac is a true scholar of modern music, which just begs to be played on the biggest sound system you can find.
All in all, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip are the partnership that British music has been waiting for. (and the albums bloody brilliant)

Wednesday 17th Feburary 2010 Brundenell Social Club Queens Road Leeds
Under the bunting covered dance floor the indie fashion parade was in full swing, topman hair cuts, and blue striped shirts and jeans. Standard. Little Comets hit the stage and ripped their way through a colourful set of songs to make you happy, the only way it could have been better for this band is if they handed out their ecliptic array of percussion instruments...(maybe that would have stopped the fashion parade from talking all the way through about how their skinny jeans had just caused a blood clot in their big toe.) 'One Night in October' didn't fail to excite, leaving the crowd begging for their forthcoming album.
Returning to the stage for the final time on this NME Tour, The Chapman Brothers cut through the chit-chat. White noise from the guitars, drone from the bass and pure cymbal aggression brought them to the end of their first song. Not every ones cup of tea, but by the climax, it was mine.
Frankie and The Heart Strings beamed with love. Relaxed confident, and just so happy to be there. That's all you need from a band, but they delivered even more. A band to watch, and equally a band to listen out for.
